| June 1, 2010 - Kent A. Johnson is the featured speaker at Geek Night in Zurich, Switzerland, hosted by Trifork the Swiss Division. Kent's presentation is entitled; "Disciplined Scrum - What's in it for me?"
Abstract: Some
may be surprised to see the words “disciplined” and “Scrum” used
together, but over the nearly 10 years since the Agile Manifesto was
signed, we have seen a real connection. We
continue to see a wide range of results from some organizations
reporting an improvement of 35% to others reporting an improvement of
400%. We consider this range to go from ScrumBut to
Hyperproductive Scrum. The key difference in the organizations
with these levels of improvement is discipline. Depending on your experience and role you may have questions:
- If you are new to Agile, you might ask: Does this really work?
- If you have been doing Agile for years, you might ask: How can I do this better?
- If you are a developer, you might ask: How do I convince my boss to do Agile?
- If you are the boss, you might ask: How do I convince my customer to do Agile?
In
this talk, I describe what we mean by these concepts and how they can
work for you, your team, and your organization. I also answer the
questions above and questions from the audience.

June 2, 2010 - Kent A.
Johnson is the featured speaker at the Scrum Breakfast in Zurich, Switzerland,
hosted by Fachgruppe Lean, Agile & Scrum SwissICT. Kent's presentation is entitled;
"Scrum + CMMI®"
Abstract:
Scrum and CMMI are often
considered at odds with each other. What does each approach bring
to the table? Scrum promotes the idea of focusing on the most
important product issues first and supports frequent
communication. CMMI is a reference model that helps
organizations to improve their performance. CMMI brings a structure
that promotes consistency and discipline to avoid waste and
rework. So, why should we try to combine both approaches?
Is this combination a good idea?
Scrum
is a systematic, repeatable way of doing things - important for
CMMI. A good Scrum implementation supports areas important to a
good CMMI implementation, including project management, engineering,
organizational change, code review, continuous integration, and
automated testing in the build process.
In
this talk I describe work that I have done with organizations around
the world and with Jeff Sutherland, co-creator of Scrum. In these
activities, we have identified a number of organizational impediments
to really good Scrum and hyperproductive Scrum. Key impediments
identified include training, defining READY, defining DONE, and
implementing good engineering practices. We developed this course
to address these impediments. In addition, I discuss some key
problems with CMMI including processes being too heavy. It is
really fun and exciting when an organization reaches the correct
balance of agility and discipline.

Using Agile with CMMI® to get Effective and Efficient Processes
Taught
by Kent A. Johnson in London, UK
The
primary goal of this interactive 2 day seminar is to help organizations
get the most out of using Agile Methods together with CMMI.
Agile
Methods and CMMI are often perceived to be at odds with each
other. However, some organizations have benefited from combining
these approaches and have demonstrated a synergy from using Agile
Methods with CMMI. Not all organizations have been successful
with either CMMI or Agile Methods.
In
this seminar, we present “Agile attributes” and what they bring to a
CMMI Implementation, “CMMI attributes” and what they bring to Agile
Methods, and the implications of Agile Methods on SCAMPI
Appraisals. Real-world experiences from CMMI Maturity Level 2
through 5 organizations are shared in the form of success stories,
failures, and root causes.
Interactive
exercises are used to reinforce the concepts presented and to relate
the concepts to your business objectives. This seminar can be
customized to the organization’s current situation and to the time
constraints of the audience. For
